Fixes, Fighting, Fiction

All Coming This Week in AQWorlds!

Today (it's still Monday if you haven't slept yet, right?) was a really busy day! Every Monday is, but this one more than most. Along with the usual meetings, discussions about release work, and sharing out tasks, we had a few key points we needed to pin down before the team could really get in gear for the week's work.

First up, BIG (soon to be) fixes!

We mentioned recently that one of the latest Flash Player updates has caused the lag increase to skyrocket. We refuse to accept the limitations imposed on us by an outside company, so we're doing everything we can do create our own work-around... even if that means recoding an important part of the engine.

Yorumi is handing over the weekly map-coding work to Dumoose so that he can concentrate on getting this issue dealt with as fast and as thoroughly as possible. We aren't sitting on this problem; it is the TOP priority for the entire AQW team. (And AE's other programmers want to know how to fix issues like this to prevent or reduce them in their games. /cheer for teamwork!)

This afternoon, Yorumi met with Captain Rhubarb, Titan, and Rolith (after speaking with Zhoom previously) about this issue. That's a LOT of programming power focused on fixing this lag issue. We don't have a solution yet, but we DO have promising avenues of investigation.

We will keep you updated as we have more solid answers!

Second, normal-sized fixes!

We also worked on getting the last of the issues from the Friday the 13th/War release fixed. That is a large part of what Yorumi does on Mondays, and while working on the lag issue, he also looked into the War Glaive error, the bugged riddle minigame from Friday the 13th, and some other things.

Fight Against Evil... with Evil!

Part 2 of the Dave* vs Nulgath war releases this Friday! Get ready for more gear, more quests, and more areas of the Underworld to explore! All of the shops will get new items - ACs, Legion/Diamond merge shops, and the regular war merge shops!

Klunk should now be dropping the Facebasher Mace +13for all loyal Legion followers and any mercenary brave enough to fight with them!

Two MORE minibosses will release with this Friday's war. Will YOUR side be the first to unlock theirs? Remember, the Legion won the first skirmish in the war, but that doesn't mean the Nulgath Nation are out of the game. Rally together and fight for your commander!

Note: Nulgath will not release the second installment of his cinematic war cutscenes. As intricate as they are, they take much longer than a week to produce. He will continue working on that as he has time and will release it as soon as it's polished.

In the meantime, Samba will create an action-packed cutscene that will put you right in the middle of the battle!

Nulgath Waits... and Watches!

The week before last I wrote a story Design Notes that focused on Dage the Evil. Nulgath appeared briefly, as that lent dramatic tension to the scene. But this week I think it's time we take a closer look at what is happening in the ArchFiend's command tent. Get ready to watch the story unfold from an entirely new perspective. What you learn may very well save your sanity... or your soul.

Previously In DoomWood: The tale of DoomWood Part 1 is packed with puns, reveres vicious villains, and is overrun with undead, all while revealing the secrets of Artix's past... and future! This Friday, watch a "Previously in DoomWood" cutscene to revisit those memories of your journey with Artix to the deepest reaches of DoomWood!

If you haven't finished the zone (or started it) yet, then you should /join lightguard RIGHT NOW! You won't be required to have finished Part 1 to play, but when Part 2 REALLY starts next week, having that background knowledge is going to make the zone feel a lot fuller.
DoomWood Part 2: Whispers of the Shadow Lord will be available for ALL players and continues the story of Artix, Vordred, Sally, and Gravelyn, taking it to darker, more undead-ly places than ANY of us could have imagined!

DoomWood Member-only Mid-week!

PALADIN PUNCH! (Not the fruit drink.) In this week's member-only mid-week release, Cysero sets up your return (or introduction) to DoomWood but, as in any quest, your companions are the key to success! To unlock all the rewards this week has to offer, you'll want to make fast friends with Michtem, the Paladin Loremaster you'll meet on arrival.

When a misunderstanding pits you against one of DoomWood's Guardian Spirits, though, if fate is not kind, you won't have a ghost of a chance to survive! Rewards will include the Paladin Loremaster armor as well as a wide assortment of helms and capes, since we heard you guys wanted more of them!

SkyGuard: Things that Make You Go BOOMMM!

In the latest installment of the SkyGuard storyline, SkyPirates invade the High Command's mountaintop base, seeking to sabatoge communications and searching for access to their secret weapon. And that secret weapon just happens to be the all-new, high-powered battle-tech war mech, Project M3cha-d34th!

But when Stratos goes rogue, disobeying the High Command's orders, you'll need to deal with the SkyPirates on your own! Something's rotten in the High Command, and it will take all you've got to save the base and all of Lore without blowing it all sky high!

Dark Caster X, Knave1 Rares Shops leave May 7th!

Join Dage's Legion... or try to infiltrate it! Speak to Dage in Battleon to access the Dark Caster X shop. Talk to Knave1 in Swordhaven to browse his show of slayer-ful gear! Both shops leave May 7th, so all of you asking for extensions to the shop can rest easy, you've got time left... but not a lot!

Cerberoz Livedraw this Wednesday at 4pm!

Join us this Wednesday at 4PM server time for Cerberoz's in-game live-draw event! We'll be taking your suggestions over Twitter about what he should draw so that you can see your input shape the item as it appears on the screen!
If you haven't joined us for an in-game LiveDraw event yet, here's what's going on:
You'll want to /join stream once the event starts and you'll be able to watch as one of AE's epic artists draws an item based on your real-time suggestions! That item will go into the Black Market shop in the /stream map and, once the art is polished up, the item will turn into the weapon you've just seen created.

AQW Action Figure Video Premiere after Livedraw!

And make sure to stay in /stream after Cerberoz's drawing event ends to watch the world premiere of the AQWorlds Action Figure video! Created using stop-motion animation, you'll watch the Artix and Sepulchure action figures comes to life before your eyes! Look for more details about the premiere as the event draws closer!

AE heads to Relay for Life!

The world is made up of everyday heroes, and this weekend Artix Entertainment is joining a whole group of them as we race to find a cure to save lives in Relay for Life! We'll be walking, running, /stepdancing, and even /sambaing our way up, down, and around the track for 18 hours from Friday  to Saturday.
If you're in the area, /party up with us at the Charles S Rushe Middle School from 6PM Friday night to 12PM Saturday! We'd love to see all our local players there!

Ludum Dare Update: Kitty.coli

This weekend, Cysero, Samba, Rolith, Thyton, Warlic, Epic Duel's RabbleFroth, and I participated in the Ludum Dare, a timed game-making competition. Scroll down to see more details about our infection-themed top-down shooter called Kitty.coli (takes place inside a cat's gut)!
Although we didn't finish on time for the contest - thanks to some unforeseen bugs (how appropriate!) - we have the beginnings of an awesome minigame with absolutely SICK art (literally)!

Thanks to all of you who supported us over this weekend with questions and encouragement! Making games is something we love to do so much that sometimes it's hard to stop when Friday's releases are over.

Aurelio Voltaire Biography

Biography

Voltaire (Aurelio Voltaire Hernandez) is often described as a modern day renaissance man. He is a singer/ performer, creator of comic books, animation and toys.

As a musician, he is a songwriter whose music can best be described as a collection of murder ballads, tongue-in-cheek exercises in the macabre, with just enough bawdy songs about Star Trek and Star Wars to keep a convention audience rolling in the aisles. Many know him for his songs "Brains!" and "Land of the Dead" from the Cartoon Network show "The Grim Adventures of Billy And Mandy".
Voltaire's live shows, whether solo or with his skeletal orchestra, are full of stories and games. Many describe his shows as sitting around a fire while an old friend regales you with tales, presuming that old friend drinks a liter of rum a night, dates zombie prostitutes and wrestles Krakens.
Voltaire has been recording and touring for over 15 years. He's released 8 full length CDs, most of them through Projekt Records.

Aurelio Voltaire started his career as a stop-motion animator and director in the eighties, at a handful of New York City animation houses, During those years, a teenaged Voltaire animated stop-motion commercials for Budweiser, Ikea, RC cola, Hess, Parker Brothers, Kellogg's, Arm and Hammer, Marvel and many others. He made his mark as a director shortly thereafter creating award winning station IDs for MTV including the now classic "MTV Bosch". Based on the work of Hieronymus Bosch, the 15th century, Flemish painter, this station ID brought to life the hell panel of his famous "Garden of Earthly Delights" triptych via stop-motion animation. The spot took home a handful of awards and was included in a time capsule of 20th century programming that was shot into space. Moreover, it established Voltaire's unique style of whimsically dark animation and surreal storytelling. Voltaire then went on to direct a handful of horror, sci-fi and Halloween oriented station IDs for SyFy Channel, USA Networks, Discovery, The Learning Channel, Fangoria and others .
After a ten year hiatus from the film business that saw Voltaire develop a large following for his music, comic books and toys, Aurelio Voltaire has returned to making films for the love of it. He is presently working on a series of shorts call the "Chimerascope series". Based on the station ID work he did for MTV and SyFy Channel, each film is about a minute or two long, animated in stop-motion animation and feature narrations by singers of note. The first four films in the series are narrated by Danny Elfman (Oingo Boingo), Gerard Way (My Chemical Romance), Deborah Harry (Blondie) and Richard Butler (The Psychedelic Furs). The films have toured the festival circuit and have been seen at scores of horror and animation film festivals around the world as well as collected a handful of awards. More Chimerascope shorts are presently in the works.
Voltaire has also recently written his first feature length screenplay, "Call of the Jersey Devil". The film is a live action, horror/comedy feature film Voltaire hopes to direct. The script won "Best Screenplay" at The NYC Horror Film Festival as well as at the Rocky Mountain Horror Film Festival in 2010.

In 2004 Hong Kong's premiere vinyl toy company, Toy2R, introduced Voltaire to the world of "designer vinyl" by manufacturing a toy of his comic book character, Deady. It was an instant hit and lead to a string of other Voltaire toys including a line of "Pocket Goth" plush toys for Toy Network that were made for the games and amusement market. Those toys were available as prizes at all of the major amusement parks as well as in crane machines at Walmart, Toys R Us, etc.
Voltaire continues to make toys, mostly of his character, Deady. Recent Deady toys include a figure made by Disney and Minstyle (of Deady as Stitch from their film "Lilo and Stitch"), an 8-inch Deady figure by Toy2R that was co-branded with the popular on-line role-playing game AdventureQuest Worlds, a Deady Hot Wheels car by Mattel for the Japanese market as well as collaborations with the ubiquitous "Skelanimals" characters (also by Toy2R).

Help Knave1, King Alteon’s Royal UndeadSlayer, face down this eons-old entity and send it back to the dimension from which It escaped!

The Desterrat Moya is in the Void, waiting to begin its attack on Lore!

The Desterrat Moya – called the Banished One – is an entity which inhabited this plane long before Lore’s current pantheon. It is an Elder One which clashed with gods… and lost. Not a god itself, the Desterrat Moya is a creature from the time when our stars were dark, but undead minions have called on it for generations to free them from their Masters. And now it has listened!
Send the Desterrat Moya back to Its dimension and you'll have a chance to receive epic reward equips like:
